Help with axle wrap /wheel hop
I have an 07 1500 4x4 Sport bone stock that suffers from axle wrap or wheel hop (whatever you want to call it). Truck has 40,000 miles on it. When traveling at highway speeds if you hit a bump it feels like the backend is really loose and wants to get sideways. I've looked into a couple products like the Roadmaster Active Suspension system and traction bars like the Caltracs. Anyone else having this issue? Anyone using the Roadmaster or traction bars?
my truck does that on the highway anything over 100km/h i think its just because the box is empty, it slides to the right about 6 in then its ok kinda scary at first.
how big are these bumps your talking about?

The bumps are nothing major, this is my third Ram and I've never had this issue with the other trucks. No sound when it happens. Just feels like the tires are not planted to the ground. From what I've read the stock springs are fairly soft to give more of a car-like feel and this can contribute to the wheel hop.
Traction bars such as the Caltracs are commonly found on highly modified diesel trucks to help with keeping the tires planted under hard acceleration. The principle of these bars rests on the fact that they tie the axle to frame using thick wall tubing and bushings.
They might help you keep the axle in line with the frame of the truck but I wouldn't bet on it. Sounds like your shocks are shot. If the shocks don't absorb the impact of the bump, the truck can feel like its losing control. If you can stand on the rear bumper and successfully bounce the truck up and down easily then most likely its time for some new shocks.

Could be that the shocks are already shot and aren't stomping down the way they should. I had that happen in another truck I had and new nitrogen gas charged shock solved the problem pretty quickly. My Hemi has 54K on it now and I'm actually looking for new shocks all around.
