Living in Alberta, were curesd with paying up the wazoo for any performance up grades.

I would aviod headers, remove the y pipe run two free flowing mufflers 2.5 in, if your truck is a 2wd, headers will make more sense, on the 4x4 rams, left ex pipe of the manifold makes a long curve to meet the right ex, so right of the hop, the factery sytem is not designed for the best flow.

Cost vers performance gains is kinda hard to figure out, you need the cats, paying for higher flowing cats only makes sense if your going with headers, adding a high flow y pipe is pointless if your running headers and free flowing cats, the y pipe is the bottle neck on the stock ex system.

I converted my 06 to dual ex, removed the y pipe and I have had a hell of a time retaining mufflers, it may be benifical to order a cat back ex and have a muffler shop install it.

I'm not convinced running one muffler with two inlests two out lest is the way to go, I have fryed the dynomax ultra flow a frew times.

set a budget, dropping 1500.00 on a ex sytem is far to much coin for the extra muff muff.

Go pacesetter LTs Coated, they are the best bang for your buck and net the best results, they are well worth it 2wd OR 4x4. Is it worth dropping the coin to get them YES, better performance, better tone, better tq, better mpg over the stock setup so they are by far worth every penny. You do not have to take it to a shop to install them, you can do it right in your driveway if you want to.

Cats - Keep them, gut them, get rid of them, its all your choice. I ran mine without them for a few weeks and could not stand them like that. They were to raspy/airy sounding (when you have to crank up the radio so you cant hear the truck there is something wrong) and the truck smelled horrible with them off because of the unburned hydrocarbons (or whatever they are). When I put them back on, I modified the Pacesetter Y pipe, opened the cats up to a 3" in/out and welded the Y pipe onto the cats and it turned out damn good w/ no codes and all my issues with them off went away. Was it difficult? not really just a PITA.

Y pipe - Pacesetter has a nice Y pipe kit that they sell cheap which is just a bolt on kit, no welding required (however with my setup I had a fairly bad leak off one of the bends). THE ONLY ISSUE WITH THIS SETUP that I have heard is that with the later year 4x4's the Y pipe can get in the way of the transfer case, but thats just hear say amd I cannot tell you that is true for certain, just something that has come up a couple times.

Mufflers - The mufflers that go DI/DO suck ***. Dont use them you wont get the sound or flow you are after. If you feel you need to do something like that to even the exhaust pulses throw an X pipe in there and then go to two mufflers SI/SO. Personally I think I may be going that route here soon too.

I believe that. On mine it comes within about 3/4 of an inch of the transfer case.

As soon as someone says shorty headers outperform long tubes, I'd be out the door lookin' for a new exhaust shop. He knows better, anybody in the exhaust business knows better, but he's lazy and wants to make an easy buck (and a lot of them if he's charging you $1500!!!. It's easier to install shorties!!!

He's got under $700 in materials (and that's if he's buying the "Y" pipe), so he's charging you $800 for two hours labor!!!

He pretty sure before i went in when i got new muffler put on i asked him i think he said something like longtubes will fit just gotta play around with the cats or something like that.

I want to keep the exhaust i got its a magnaflow si/do 3/2x3' and is ran out before rear tire it is LOUD )))) WIFE hates it and that makes me happy.

so i went priced everything on summit and for shipping total for pacesetter long tube off road y pipe and jets 180 deg thermostat it show total for shipping is using priority mail

is Order Subtotal $764.08 )))

i hope this makes my exhaust quieter OOOOO

I have looked and looked and have not found long tubes for the 4.7L. How much difference is there in the exhaust port and stud spacing from a 5.7L to a 4.7L? I am wondering if I could slot the bolt holes and fit a set of these in the truck? Or maybe cut up a set of 4.7L short tubes to cann the flanges and weld it all together...
