I have read several threads of people deactivating or "turning off" the MDS. Is this something I can do or does a mechanic have to do it? I am curious if the fuel savings is all that much different. I am tired of the engine constantly switching from 8 cylinders to four and back again. These truck seem a bit heavy to benefit from 4 cylinders anyway.

Get a programmer like superchips and you'll be able to turn that off and do performance tunes as well as checking for engine codes, etc.

 

Tow/haul mode turns off MDS as well as OD off.
