Default 2006 Dodge Ram Radio install?

So here is a little dilemma that i am running into when trying to get all the parts needed for my radio/speakers/sub upgrade that I'm about to do on my ram. I have an 06' hemi regular cab with the 7 speaker infinity sound system (stock).

I want to upgrade speakers, head unit and install my 12" sub that i have from my previous ram (99').

I think that I am right in saying that with the infinity system (stock). As per the dealer service manual that I own...

"...The premium speaker system also includes a power amplifier
mounted behind the glove box. The total available power of the premium speaker system is 368 watts."

My question is- Has anyone done this install, and does having the stock amp effect anything when you install a new head unit that already has an "amp."??

Additionally, has anyone used any kind of steering wheel button conversion unit, and how hard is it to install?

and... what type of in dash radio kit ( the king where its a plastic kit that fills in the extra space of the navi hole.) would you need if you had the navi bezel to fill with a standard 2" head unit?

Thanks so much, this is an expensive upgrade that I'm about to invest in and I want everything to go smoothly!

Hello and welcome to df. You're new so I'll take it easy on ya, but you really should use the search function. There has been a ton of threads on this very topic. I personally don't have an infinity system but from what I hear you're gonna need to by pass the amp all together and run all new cables. As for the steering wheel control I've heard of people using the kit and it working, and I think you may need a new bezel but am unsure. I'm sure someone with more knowledge on this will chime in but good luck.

Yeah, for a single DIN headunit, you just need the dash kit.

For me in my truck with mine having the Infinity, it was easier for me to run all new speaker wire from the amps to the doors and RCAs from the HU to the amps.

Sure I did lose the steering wheel remotes and I could have spent another $75 +/- to get them back but why when my HU came with a remote and it sits in the ashtray which is within reaching distance.
