Pull the access cover off the back of your tail gate then use pliers to bend the prongs that hold the lock in place straight so they can slide out. You can then shut the tail gate and pry out the lock which may take some effort because there is 2 sided tape also holding it on. I had to remove one once. Not too bad at all.

Well you know when you fold your tailgate down there is a rectangular looking panel that is help on by 10 or 12 torx bolts? That is your access cover. Simple remove all the bolts/screws with the corrext torx driver and you will be able to see/have full access to the back of the tail gate handle. From there there will be metal hooks that are between the hinges of the tailgate handle that appear to be bent over. This is what holds the lock in place. These bent hooks need to be straightened out in order for the lock to be pulled out.

No. It might leave some glue residue on the handle where the 2 sided tape was. This will come off easy with some solvent or gas.
