Default solenoid switch valve on 2002 ram

Is it hard to change a solenoid switch valve on a transmission. I have asked a few people that have worked on cars and they say that it is do-able but difficult and time consuming. I would like to get another opinion from anyone out there that has done it. I have moderate mechanical skills and would like to try this because I am super low on funds. What do you guys think?

Sorry about that, I have a 2002 ram 1500 2wd with a 4.7 auto trans with about 89000 miles.

Is the switch an external or internal switch?

Thanks nim81 for the help. ONE more question, I am not familiar with the internal parts of a trans so are there any surprises that I should look out for when I dive into this and what would be some trouble spots to keep an eye on. ok that was two questions. Thanks again, with any luck I'll have my baby purrin' like a kitten again soon.

Watch out for any check ***** and where they might fall out from because they need to go back there.
