Default Pricing question for oil

I will be changing over to synthetic oil here soon. I have found the following prices here in town:

Walmart: Mobil 1 Syn 5w-20 about $23 for 5 qt jug
Oreilley's: House brand Syn 5w-20 $4.79 a qt

so to use Mobil 1 syn it would cost it would cost about $37 for 7 qts al wally world and 33 bucks at Oreilleys. Worth it to save a few bucks while still staying synthetic or just do it in Mobil 1?

On the flip side, O'reilley's has a manager's special for Mobil 1 Clean 5000 5w-20 conventional for 1.99 a qt. tempted to go this way again what do you guys think?

You have to be careful with something like a store brand oil. It could be recycled or not a true synthetic. Mobile 1 is a trusted quality oil. IMO, I would spend the extra couple bucks and go Mobil 1. You can run it for 7k+ miles with a filter change every 3k miles, so you get your moneys worth out of it.

The oil filter should be above the oil pan so you could never technically drain the oil through the filter, but maybe its different on the Hemis. I have a 4.7, but on most engines, the filter is near the top end. When you pull it off, you will loose some oil. Just put the new filter on and replace any oil you lost with new oil. It shouldnt lose more than a quart. Many synthetic oils (Mobil, Amsoil, Royal Purple) can last for long intervals well over 10k, but you have to change the filter out. Unless you use Amsoil filters; their filters can go for extended periods.

It is possible to change the filter and not lose much oil. I did that when I put a sandwich adapter for an oil pressure sending unit on my Mazda. Only lost about 1/2 a quart of oil (I just put the filter back on, still full of oil).

OP, I still use conventional in my Ram (Hi-Mileage Pennzoil, $2.50/qt at WM). I was astonished to see how ridiculous O'Reilly's is for stuff. They charge $17 for a FOUR QUART jug of Pennzoil conventional. I'll be using them only to beat Advance's price on something I need.

I normally go to Autozone for parts, but Advanced has won me over with some of thier prices latley. Walmart is the usual place for oil though because I do a K&N oil filter and they never have high mileage oil with that combo. I can be out the door at walmart though with 6qts of Valvoline Maxlife for $21.

I once overfilled my engine by about a quart (I wasnt paying attention) and instead of trying to loosen the drain plug and tighten it back up I just pulled off the filter a couple times and drained it out. I did let the engine idle some in between each oil filter drain so I always had oil running through the engine.

Walmart has some great prices on oil. I was able to get some conventional castrol in the five quart jug for $13 last week. Needed some oil for after my cam install and that will do nicely for that price.

I think you should use nothing but Royal Purple.

Second to that I would run Mob1 and get it from Walmart. Buy two 1 gal bottles and save what you dont use for your next oil change.

Royal purple is so hard to find around here. I would like to try it but only one store carries it and they want $8 or $9 a quart. That is why I stick to the m1, can't beat the price that they sell it for at walmart.

You know I have said that before also and I agree, M1 is plentiful. RP on the other hand I can only get at Oreilleys
