We have a miller 210 with Argon. Have had it at least 5 or 6 years. Done everything in the world...and you HAVE to have a welder when you have a toy like us.

Even wired our small 3 car garage with 3/4" conduit when we moved last year, so we'd have 240 for the compressor and welder. We miss the 2000 SF shop in the country, but the HOA hasn't whined at us yet.... the neighbors actually don't mind it so much. The family across the street have a harley and their son works at BMW, and next to us used to have a racecar. We lucked out.

Personally, I never weld anything that can effect the lives of others. I have great insurance, but it doesn't bring people back to life.

I see your point 'froggy, and I've been welding since I was 13 years old off and on and I don't think I would attempt a hitch like RH did. But the point I was making was I've seen some pretty **** poor welds come out of "professional" shops in my time. Welds that failed under a lot less stress than towing a camper would put on one.
My old man has been welding since he was a kid, and did so commercially for auto fabrication and then 18+ years for an awning and canopy business and I'd trust his welds a lot more than some commercial shops. But on paper, his would be just as "home made" as RH's...

I dunno 175 bucks is **** all when it comes to the (potential) safety of my occupants and other people on the road.

Well yeah but I mean buy a cast steel one or a billet aluminum one that is one piece. They have done the tests to ensure that the hitch will last and rate it for what it is capable of. Hitches are something that is cheap enough to be boughten at a store and should be used as a secondary insurance method.

you find me a one piece 14 inch drop ...not going to happen one piece 2 inch yes not in a 14 .

and fyi you know when you can weld when you can weld a 1.5 inch line and all the slag comes of in one piece not in sections or chunks .
now im not saying im a king welder but i have done my fair share over the years and would trust my own work over some stuff you can buy .

RAMHUNTER, i personally trust your weld. i used to be a welder/copper smith prior to my current occupation, which is a Police officer, please no donut jokes..... I just figured id give you that information just because i know here in MA, if something did happen, you would be found liable for any injuries and slapped with a list of charges. With a hitch that is bought, the company who sells it can say that there hitch meets ____ certification and therefore was safe to use. Since yours was not put under any test, lawyers are gonna argue and say "how DO we know it the hitch REALLY was safe??blah blah blah'. like i said its better than many welds i have seen and im positive it will hold but just be aware.
