press makes light work of them if you have access to one however an impact socket with a hammer should tap them out, patience is key with the hammer method, hit too hard or not square and you will be picking up needles

Well some ujoints can be more stubborn than others, luckily you are doing a drive shaft and only have to beat out two of the four. If you have a press then you are way ahead of the game, if not a 2lb hammer and an impact socket will work. If you have a torch you can heat the meat that is holding in the ujoint and that sometimes makes it easier to beat out. But if you have a torch you could take the easy way out and just cut the ujoint out, then the cups knock out really easy but your still stuck beating them back in. Like sbsga said though make certain you are hitting it square and not too hard initially because it sucks hunting that one needle bearing that somehow you managed to loose after it feel out.

Good luck.

Using a ball joint press is the best method I've found. Most parts stores have them on their loaner programs and they're easier to get your hands on than a shop press.

you can also put the new joints in the freezer overnight before you put them in if you have time, they will go in like you wiped them down with ky.
