I wouldn't go as far as saying they are a joke but for most applications they aren't any better than a diesel. We have some Escape hybrids at work that I have to drive on occation and I've got to say they are great for city type driving where acceleration is low and idling is common. I would never use one as a daily driver on a highway though.

Short answer- Nothing you do will make a significant increase. You might see 2-4 with a tuner, cai, and exhaust.

Long explanation:
The most important thing about gas mileage isn't what you drive its HOW you drive. Keep the revs low while accelerating and you'll maximize your mileage. Top Gear did this on an episode once where they took a Prius and an Audi A3 and had the A3 follow the Prius at the Prius' maximum which meant the A3 wasn't even panting yet and the Prius ran out of gas way before the A3 did. Now I'm sure the Prius has a smaller tank and we know the Prius isn't made to go 80 mph but it shows that how you drive is more important than what you drive when it comes to mpg.

2-4 would make a pretty big difference

its a computer mod... i recommend Superchips or Diablo predator. Google them and check it out
Good thing about a programmer like these they also have a code reader built it. Basically you plug it in, up load a program and disconnect. its easy man.
cai is Cold air intake. use the search function on this forum and you'll find a DIY if not just pm me and ill send you the link.
and is 2-4 is a pretty big difference

Tuner meaning Superchips or Diablo programmer. For the exhaust if your on a budget I would go with a dual cat-back, if money isn't an issue I would do the whole thing. CAI = Cold air intake.

Here is the deal though, yes these things may help with mpg however as rocket said once you've got them try not stepping on the gas hard. It wont happen. It would be like hiring a hooker only for a strip tease, not gonna happen.

LOl (It would be like hiring a hooker only for a strip tease, not gonna happen)

what he is saying is true i only have exhaust, tuner, cai and recently going threw the canadian rockies all hills i got in 1 tank 750km wich amazed me i tried to keep the truck below 2k rpm when accelerating and when on the highway and the millage did amaze me>.But i love the sound and the pep my truck has so i normally only get 500km per tank due to mostly city driving.

Once u get a nice exhaust setup your foot instantly gets heavier for some unknown reason?????

hmm. my old lady has a prius. gets lowest of 45. up to 65 mpg.

I have a 4.7 v8 in my quad cab. I get no lower than 17. and on trips i usually get 20-21. Best thing i've found is stay right at 70mph(73 at the most) on the interstate. it chews gas above that.

Chit, mine drinks gas no matter how fast or slow I go. I quit trying to figure it out and just keep putting gas in it. Honestly though, this is another reason I want a CTD. I can get more HP and TQ and more MPG all for less fuel cost.
