Default Just bought a 04 quad cab and would like some advice.

Hey everyone...Just ventured back into the truck world. Had a 06 Mustang GT and had a nice setup on it. I bought a 04 quad cab 5.7 liter and was wondering what I can do to it as far as a programmer and or cold air intake. It already has magnaflow exhaust on it and sounds really good. Wanting to see if I can improve my fuel mileage and also improve the throttle response? What would be a few good options that yall recommend? Thanks in advance...

Make your own CAI, a PVC "home made" with a good filter at $60 will perform just as well as the $300+ store bought ones. Do a search there are literally hundreds of posts on how to make your own. Ebay setups can be hit and miss for under $100, I've seen some good ones and seen a lot fall apart in no time.

As far as a tuner, for an '04 I'd strongly recommend the Superchips 3865... Basically your only real choice for transmission support for that year Hemi...

If I have a SCT Flash programmer that I used for my 2006 Mustang GT. Can I get a tune made for my truck and use that or no? Just a shot in the dark...

And does anyone have any pics of the home made PVC intake??? Never would of thought to do that...........

As much as I like my Diablo I have to agree on the SC 3865 if you want any TCM support. But IF you are EVER going to get a big cam then you might wanna think ahead and get a Diablo.

That SCT off your Mustang is not going to work for your truck.

There are plenty of threads on home made CAI's.

No, you'll have to buy one specific for the truck. Like hammer said the 3865 superchips will be your best bet.

Here is a shot of mine. It's 3" pvc with a K&N cone filter on it.

A couple I have made or have walked guys through making over the last couple of months:

This one is CwboyJohnny's just prior to unstalling the "baby filter" on the CVT:

Cost on these was right around $60-65 WITH a K&N Cone filter, with a no-name filter such as a Spectre you could shave the cost by about $15 or so...

Do I need to make a hole cut out for any sensor or sensors to be put in? What about the heat shield? I see some with and without...?
Ive seen some for sale that have a box around it...?

Also with the Superchips 3865...What kinda gains would I expect if I purchase this? HP/TQ What about fuel milage? Would it be a noticable difference or just 1 mpg? With my mustang GT, it was like night and day for power and throttle response...

We just installed the filter so it rested in the lower part of the factory air box where the filter normally sits. It gets air from all around including where the factory has the air drawn from the front of the truck. You can see in my pic above. Also, here is where the air sensor is. I forgot how big a hole to drill but you just drill it and find a grommet the same size as the sensor and push it in.
