Brake service - WOW!
I don't go to the dealership very often, but I hate doing brakes, so I took the truck in to get the rotors turned, new pads installed, and a good inspection on all four corners. It's taking them all day and gonna cost me $500 bucks! I could have done it in my driveway in half a day and spent the rest of the day trying to drink the difference I saved while enjoying a good cigar.
On a good note, the local dealership has very good people working there. And according to a quick internet search, the price is about right. I just keep forgetting how expensive it is to pay someone to do pretty much anything for you.

i just did the front cost me 200 bucks (in canada) for new rotors and pads and took about 45 minutes to do in my garage. 500 bucks isnt bad when it comes to dealerships up around here especially if its new front/rear rotors, and new pads front rear and emergency shoes... and 1.5-2hrs labour
For years I thought that way too, my old man would do them when I still lived near him, but I moved away for college and ain't lived in the same state since. First five or six years I was married I paid to have them done (OFTEN, the ex was terrible on brakes, she only knew full gas pedal and full brake pedal!!!)
Finally got tired of my partner I was in business with giving me sh*t about not being able to do my own brake pads, so I did them on her Grand Cherokee and the rotors too.
Now, I'd rather install a set of pads than change the oil...

I had a five or six year period where I kinda got lazy. Had a business and was working six days a week, decent money coming in, and had a decent mechanic who maintained our company vehicles. So I got to the point where if my truck or Wrangler needed work done, I'd pick up the phone and call. Guy would send a kid to pick up my truck and then drop it off.
I'd do my mods myself, but would let this guy do the regular maintenance. Once I sold the business that stopped as I had time to "tinker" with my own vehicles again. Now, with me not working steady, it's a necessity that I do ALL my own work...

Changes the brakes on my truck last weekend literally, cost me 50 bucks for brake pads and 45 mins of my time. Compared to $250 at the local shop. They said I would have to rotate the rotors also but they were no where near time to rotate.
