I have the code from H--- yet another one
Well, yesterday we found the hose that is connected to the EVAP/canister had a crack in it. So temporarily taped with electrical tape and have on order a new hose from dealer. Will now start the drive cycles. Still no inspection and 1 day over due. I have already failed once on the 29th of June.
So now this morning on my way to work I see no PO 442 code on my reader, but I stopped for gas and now I have a pending PO440. Hopefully this is only the gas cap cycling through. Have to try to get it inspected again either today or after the holiday.
You guys or gals have been great on this forum. I love it. So my next question (stupid it may sound), I live in New York State - does anyone know how many times you can go through an inspection. I mean I want to drive legal and that.
Well I will keep you posted on the progress.
Thanks, Sporty

Your not gonna be able to get it inspected until all of the "internal" checks come back as Pass. here in NY, we are allowed to have 1 failed and still pass, but it can take up to 100 miles before the computer resets all of the DTC's that are in Fail status when you erase any codes or flash your ECU. I believe you can go through inspection as many times as you want, but if repairs are over $500 then you get a free pass...until the following year i believe??? Look at the DMV website and it says in there because that's where i read it from. You must apply for an exemption sticker to get through another year or something like that.
If you have the failed inspection reciept with you, a cop isn't gonna give you a ticket as that is proof you had attempted to get an anuual done, especially if it's only a day overdue. Now, if it's more than a week when you failed they may give you a hard time, but I wouldn't waste your time going back for an inspection until you put atleast 60miles on that truck.
if you have a scanner tool or a tuner, you can see if all the DTC's have reset themselves to the Pass status.

Thanks for the info Dirtydog. I also read the DMV site and was confused at first, but I do believe in what you say regarding the number of inspections. I have already put on over 70 since they cleared the code. But I have not had the new hose to canister put on yet. And I think the PO440 pending is just because I got gas this morning and it has not cycled through yet. Anyway, thanks for the input and I will keep all informed of my code from H---. New York makes it so hard to pass inspection. It even says on the NY Vehicle Inspection website that the CAT and EVAP codes are the hardest to eliminate. It goes to show you, they are just looking for something. Thanks again, Sporty
