green painters tape its less sticky, ive heard ppl using crisco or something like that....

What about Caliper paint or Wheel coatinf spray paintZ? They both have ceramic in them which is a breeze to clean and would deter bugs from even sticking as the stuff is slick to the touch. I'm not sure if the caliper paint is UV resistant, but it might be worth a shot! This way, there's no clearcoat to dull on you because a mesh grate aint gonna be easy to wax???

That's why I used a clear polyurethane over my paint, it's for outdoor furniture and has UV inhibitors. Primarily for wood/wicker, but did just fine on the aluminum mesh...
