Default Moonroof stopped working

All of a sudden yesterday, the moonroof wouldnt open. Tried all the switches in the overhead console and it was dead. After about 10 minutes, I tried again and it opened and closed. 10 minutes later it was dead again and has been dead.

Is this a common problem or a nightmare to fix?

Also, the windows only work from the driverside main switch, dont know if these two are related.

thanks

The window issue is common (make sure you don't have the lockout switch engaged). Remove the driver's door panel (easy to do) and make sure the switch bank is securely connected.

Check the fuses for the moonroof. If something's binding, it may have popped the fuse. Intermittent problems are NOT the fuse, so if it works when you try it again, it ain't the fuse.

Those things may be on a circuit breaker (which, once tripped will need to be reset). Time to consult the O/M.

Mayby the contacts in the switch are pitted/corroded and not getting good electrical transfer. If it's just a three way toggle switch, you could probably use a multimeter to find the hot wire and then jumper from the hot to one of the other wires to see if it opens then. If so, the switch is bad. If not, keep diggin'

Went out there and it worked again. Not sure for how long.

Its not a 3 way switch, its built onto the overhead console and has 5 buttons

open to pos 1, open to pos 2, open, close, and a close all the way button. lol

Do you have the factory sunroof? if you do, i have seen problems up inside the headliner. the wires will get pinch in the sunvisor or screw get drill thru a wire.

I've been having problems with my side windows. Sometimes if i roll up 2 at a time they stop and wont roll up or down until a few minutes later. I can check my DTC's and it will have a code showing window motor high circuit. Your sunroof (motor) may be having this same problem. The motor/track slides are probably getting in a bind and causing the motor to heat up and the computer is breaking the circuit to keep from frying it.
