ensure the hitch is installed correctly, and that the hitch carries the pin in the correct location. IIRC, you try to have the kingpin sit no further than 5% of your wheelbase ahead of the rear axle - but absolutely never ever behind it. you won't get the built-in anti-sway benefits from a 5th wheel if it's mounted behind the rear axle.
if you are concerned about cab strikes, then get a sliding hitch, you can move it back for parking maneuvers and lock it up front for hiway travel speeds.

X2 with the slider hitch. i have one and it is easy to operate. My 2500 is a gasser and has the new hemi (383hp/400tq). no problems towing. We brough a 5th wheel back from Oregon and pulled thru the highest passes on I-5 and I-40. We weren't the fastest rig going up hill, but we made it. On level land, were turning 2100 rpm @ 65 mph. Our combined weight was 16400.
I'm guessing you have the 6.7 cummins so you can pull just about anything. I'm limited to 10,500 lbs. Good luck and welcome aboard.
