Default New to me 07 1500 Hemi...A few opinions wanted

Hey Guys,
Just picked up an 07 1500 with the Hemi. Sold my 01 with the 5.9...This thing is leaps and bounds ahead of that truck..in every single way. Just a couple questions

-Torn between the Volant CAI, S&B intake, or BBK CAI. Is the volant accesory worth it if I go with it? Had a BBK on my stang and dyno'd some gains...but havent heard anyone talk about it on here
Anyone have "real world numbers" with any of these? MPG or HP (not just seat of the pants feel)

-Best catback for the money? Currently has a magnaflow muffler...but I want to get something new on there. Looking at MBRP or Gibson? Both gonna give me the same hp and mpg gains?

-Anyone have a part # for me for reccomended spark plugs...and where to get em?

-Needs new rear brake pads...anyones inparticular that these trucks like?

Thats about it...Thanks guys! Oh...I used to be on corvetteforum and those guys looooved pics...so figured I'd throw 1 up here I took off my phone hehe

Nice Truck, BTW welcome. So I'll offer an opinion wrt CAI, alot of guys on here make there own. Personnally I don't have one as the gain IMO to me would be minimal, however I am a firm believer in retaining the factory Hat so that said go the volant or even better the Stage 2 AFE, however not sure if it is built for 07 model, True Gain IMO is maybe 5 horse on one of these. Spark plugs I will not comment on here anymore about those but do some research and read the posts but if you got minimal mods replace with the hot running OEM replacement copper jobbies.

Rear brake pads, IMO any good name brand OEM replacement will do.

Enjoy the site.

hello, heres my two cents ...

Thiers a lot of posts here regaurding spark plugs, some by my self. I;m 100% possitive you can raun a Plattuim plug, but to be save, run a cooler plug than the champion coopper plug. Now this gets tricky as the 5.7 hemi is blessed with 16 plugs, and Champion copper plugs are the girl your dancing with, the 6.1 hemi has platt plugs from the dodge factery, also 16 spark plugs.

I debated running platt plugs on my last spark plug change, I all ready had the replacement champion plugs so $$$ was the main reason I stuck with the girl dodge says I should be dancing with, next spark plug change, I'm running platt, only advantage to Platt plugs is a longer change intervile.

AS for a CAI, I debated the volant, all it is is a bigger air box and less restictive air inlet into the TBI, the Hemi hat over the TBI stays with ths Volant, I would think removing the whole stock dodge air intake and running a complete aftermarket makes more sense, I reasoned for the price of thease kits ( in Canadain $$$$ ) I can pay for a lot of flue...

AS for the ex system, I'm of the opion leave the stock sytem as is, if your gonna change it, rmove the y pipe and run two mufflers with two tail pipes, I did this with my 06, power and mpg were improved but I have not had any luck keeping mufflers on my truck, for the small gains vers the head aches of swapping out mufflers and debating the wite mufflers, this mod has been more trouble than its worth.

THe hemi is a great engine, I find my 5.7 is great for power and mpg for a 2500 Ram, the best way to get the most out of thease engines for the least amount of investement is allways run mid grade gas, keep up on the maintance, the old boaring stuff, air filters, tire psi, ect.... Syn oil is a great investment over the life of your truck.

Best of luck with your hemi !!!!

I use NGK V-Power copper plugs. Got them at www.moesperformance.com for a real good price.
You will gain at best about 8hp from a CAI. For the money, the Airaid JR kit is good. Removes the hemi hat which is where the most restriction in the system and uses a non restrictive tube and a nice drop-in filter. It is quieter then an open filter and draws in cooler air.
