Default HELP! 08 6.7 Diesel 4x4 Mega Cab Big Horn Problem

Okay, Dodge afficianados! I'm begging for some advice. I know that issues are sometimes difficult to diagnose over the internet based on limited description of the problem so I'll be as descriptive as possible.

The truck belongs to my paw-in-law. It has about 59k miles. A couple of weeks ago he leaves for work and somewhere between 40 and 50 mph a sudden BAM! happens which feels as though someone locked he brakes up OR like the front end on the 4x4 tried to engage. There was a loud barking of the tires. The truck does this several times before going into "limp" mode in 4th gear. (Yes, I've been reading the forum because I KNOW no one wants to answer the same question 100 times just because someone doesn't want to do a little research). Of course, when he parks the truck and turns it off and gets back in it it goes thru this whole process again.

Here's the kicker....He's figured out that he can feather the peddle thru the 40 - 50 mph zone and he gets the same reaction only significantly more subtle. When he feathers it just so he can get thru the issue and the truck shifts normal so long as he is driving OVER 50 mph. The truck will correctly and without issue engage the passing gear and everything. This is okay for the drive into town every morning but driving in town all day is extremely problematic.

Of course - the stealership says the lifetime powertrain warranty doesn't cover the tranny. They told him to buy a new set of tires. He did and it didn't fix it. (I had no faith whatsoever that it would....)

A buddy pulled the following codes: P2262, P2563 and something like R0700 or P0700. He can't remember...

Any ideas? We need some help fellas...

Another member posted up problems about dodge not warrantying either. I sdon't understand how a transmission is NOT powertrain??? Sounds like the dealer just doesn't want to get paid the measley amount for warranty work.
Did they even offer to reflash the TCM for you?
p0700 is a trans computer malfunction code.

No, they didn't flash the TCM. Regarding the warranty - the dealership contacted DODGE and Dodge denied the approval of covering the repairs. Get this - they said the lifetime powertrain warranty covers the engine. NOT the transmission. Not the rear end. Not the 4wd components. JUST the engine. WTF?

Directly off their website
It may be because you have a diesel and they consider that commercial.

I would unplug your battery to reset your computer and see if that doesn't do anything. i doubt it will, but it's worth a shot.

Yeah, the batteries were disconnected for about an hour the other day. No help. Guess what -- (after a bit more research) Dodge actually didn't offer a lifetime powertrain warranty on the 2008 Ram 2500/3500 Diesel models. But you can bet your hiney all the salesmen through the verbiage out. Why else would so many people be surprised when they are told repairs aren't covered?

Blood is boiling...

While you may not have the lifetime powertrain warranty, you would still have the basic 3yr/36kmi warranty. Are you above 36kmi? if so, have you done any trans services yet?

Yes, it's right at 59K miles. I found where the P2262 and P2563 codes were "Turbo Boost" related but I know that quite often vehicles throw codes that are sort of misleading for those of us NOT deeply embedded in the auto repair industry. So, I don't have any delusions that simply replacing the "Turbo Boost" will immediately fix the problem...

Dirtydog - I really appreciate your answering the post and replies. It helps to know that someone has an affection with Dodge to the point they'd assist. My father in law is in DESPERATE need to get this thing fixed and he can't just go plop down $1000 to replace the valve body which is what the stealership suggests now (after having him go purchas a new set of tires). The economy stinks and they are in a bind. Anyone's advice is MUCH appreciated. I can work a wrench. Spent a lot of time on the family dirt tracker cars when I was younger but I know NOTHING about diesels, NOTHING about computer modules, NOTHING about low voltage wiring. When I raise the hood and see a fuel rail instead of a carbueretor I give up. LOL! I'm sure some of the younger guys are like "WTF is a carbueretor?" LOL!
