Default How to beef up a 1500 4x4

I have my first dodge, 07 1500 4x4 quad cab, 5.7 Hemi, Big Horn, I have owned it about a year. I like it because of the fuel economy. It is equipped with the tow package which includes the 3.92 gears. I want to pull a little bigger rv, about 6250# and a fifth wheel 1005# pin weight. I started looking at a 2500, what are all the differences of a 2500 vs 1500, with my tow setup what could I do to get me a little closer? Airbags? Engine modifications? Tires?

the difference is a beefer frame a solid front axle and beefed up suspension engine and trans stay the same..and i believe the 2500's didnt have a mds option..throw a big aftermarket tranny cooler on,some air bag's,load range e tires, and if you have mds disable it somehow?im not too in on the mds on the newer ram's..

a superchips tuner will give you a Tow tune, also allows you to disable the worthless MDS

The 2500 has a by far beefier drive train front to back

If you plan to pull much with a 1500, get an auburn or detroit true track rear center section.

As mentioned earlier---trans cooler--definitely!

You can't have your cake and eat it too! A 2500 is a lot stouter for hauling and towing and the IFS of a 1500 yields a smoother ride, better fuel economy, but will NEVER be close to a 3/4 ton truck!

Single best tow/haul mod you can do is to upgrade to 4.56 gears. After that make sure you have 17" wheels and E-rated tires as opposed to 20" (almost a 1000# better tow rating with 17s), air bags and a tuner with a tow tune probably in that order...

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. Much appreciated! I found a barn burner of a deal on a 2500, but I have resevations, bigger, beefier, heavier, truck, same engine!

I may do the airbags, and E rated tires, and keep my smaller 5th wheel.
