Default Cigarette Lighter on Dashboard

I just have a simple question...my friend broke my cigarette lighter I guess he pushed it too hard and the ring around it broke off completely I was wondering if that ring was lit or was it just a regular black plastic part?

i have an 08 SLT and mine doesn't light up. Just a regular black plastic part. The only thing that really lights up is the part that you would light the cigarette with, the orange hot thing. You can get car cigarette lighters for really cheap. They are all a universal size and cost like 3 or 4 bucks. You can even get a custom design one with an eight ball or a sports team on ebay.

That ring is part of the lighter housing. if you purchase another, it should have a new one.
There are pins on the inside that need to be depressed and it will slide right out for replacement.
