Did the 2002 ram 1500 5.9 liter with tow package have a different transmission cooler than without the tow package? If yes can it be retro-fitted to mine that doe not have a tow package?

I believe the standard tranny cooler is a 10 tube and the 'heavy duty' fitted to the 2500 and 3500 models are 15 tube. They are a bolt-in change over.

 

there are a few different sizes when it comes to the tranny coolers. some of the 03 heavy duties came with a 26 row cooler. thats what i retrofitted into mine. all oem coolers, regardless of size, will bolt right up without modification.

 

Transmission coolers are a relatively inexpensive and fairly easy to install additions to your truck. Most auto parts stores carry them in stock. They are also available at a plethora of online stores such as Summit, Jegs, etc...
