I apologize in advance for bringing an old thread back to life, but I am in the exact situation. Just bought a used 06 SLT quad cab (should have never gotten rid of my 02), but it didn't have the mirror, and I picked one up - 3 wire setup on the seven pin connector.

I know which wires do what on the mirror, but as many times as I read the thread, I can't figure out where I'm supposed to splice in in the overhead console. Can anyone help me out?

All the console has is the trip computer and lights.

If possible, I would like to use all 3 wires so the reverse disable works.

If yours is the same as the OP, one wire is ground. That's easy. One wire is a switched 12v. For that you're going to need to get your volt meter and test for 12v when ONLY the key is on. That will be your "switched" 12v. The last wire is the reverse wire. The closest place to pick that up is at the PCM which is on the passengers side firewall under the hood. It has 4 harnesses going into it. I forgot off hand which is is but I think it is the black and pink wire in the bottom connector. Again, test it with the meter. Either set the emergency brakes and chock the wheels or have someone assist. You should only have 12v when in reverse. In any other gear you should have nothing.

Thanks for the suggestions. Being that it's an exterior harness though, I think I'm gonna skip the reverse disable part and just tie it to ground.

I was hoping for more of an interior wire I could splice in to, but they did a good job of not leaving any 'non-option' pins in the connectors (I checked the ones in the pillars and dropped the headliner too- no dice).

I thought about tapping to the center pin in my tow harness, but dodge also does a great job of not leaving open penetrations in the body (It's sealed up tight and kicking my butt as far as trying to route a wire without drilling).

They did leave the clearance light pins in the harness on the passenger side (just the 2 wires), so I may connect there so it only comes on when my headlights are on.

To get to the reverse wire

Run a wire from the mirror to the passenger side A pillar, down the pillar and out through a rubber grommet on the body between the door hinges and 1/4 fender. Run it through the 1/4 fender into the engine bay where the PCM is at. Simple

Geez, my new Subi has Auto-dim and the dang thing doesn't darken due to my 20% tint on the rear window. The Rams have 18% on the back windows so I don't know how it would be any different? I know Subi compares light from the front/rear and darkens accordingly, so maybe Dodge just does rear??
In my cars, I always flip the lever up to run it dark at all times even with 20% rear tint, But I never felt the need to flip it to dark in my Ram...ever.

I ended up running a pair of wires from the trailer harness to the cab (found a plug on the underside that I was able to drill - then used RTV to seal around wires). I only used one of the two wires, but maybe it will come in handy if I ever decide to install a backup camera. Works like a charm.
