Question Anybody use this type of intake

Hey guys, just taking a look around at some CAI for my truck, found this on on fleabay and wondering if anyone else has used one similar.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/DODGE...Q5fAccessories

I've seen some threads about changing the filter to a k&n, anything else I should know about these? Also, I've heard some horror stories about hydrolocking an engine with a CAI installed. I also already have a drop in k&n will there be any real difference with this one?

I guess what I really want to know is will I regret buying this thing if I do a little offroading?

I had a CAI that went down under my headlight and offroading didnt hurt it at all. If I were you Id get the full pipe that goes to the throttle body, the hat is the biggest restriction.

I am still fairly new here, and I am sure the true gearheads will pipe up soon... but if I had to guess, the answer will be somthing like this...

although hydrolocking is a real concern, it can be easily avoiding by choosing a CAI setup with the correct location of the filter to avoid excessive water getting to it. Also avoiding driving through deep standing water.

second... most guys are gonna say, DIY. You can build your own custom intake fairly easily that provides severall benefits. First off is the price... second the satisfaction of doing it yourself...and third is to eliminate the above stated problem concerning possible hydrolocking.

Third, use the search function on the forum to find a million other threads about this exact subject. Along with detailed, step by step instructions on exactly how to build it.

And lastly, don't expect the kind of Horsepower gains that most websites claim.... although you will notice a difference.

All those guys who hydrolocked likely did not tell you they were trying to swim with their truck either did they?

Thanks for the info guys, I think I'm gonna go with the long ram intake and fab up a heat/splash shield, maybe add an AEM bypass valve for some extra security just in case. And weedahoe, I think they may have failed to mention that bit of information.

jusjay727, yeah I looked around some of those websites, but they don't show anything that will fit my '07 other than the K&N, Volant or Airraid.

edit: but then again, all the ebay cheapies say they fit from 2002-2008 so maybe the ones from the 04 an be modded to fit

I'm preety sure a few guys have bought the one I got and successfully gotten it to work it's all the same except for the headlights, front clip, and interior dash so it should fit ur truck. On carpartswholsale I got mine and it's a spectre or velocity but now they carry a koolvue and it's the same as the mopar one. I may even have mine powdercoated here soon just for peerttynesssss....
