Great mod, turning a 45rfe to a 545rfe IF you can talk a dealer into hooking up the StarScan and doing it! I've read where more than one guy (Pyro included if I remember correctly) tell that the dealer they went to denied it could be done. But it's easily do-able...

Is this something that "Any" dealership can do, or does it have to be a dodge dealership? My neighbor works at a Ford, and I bet he would do it for me. Especially since he needs some welding done, and I could hook him up easily there.

I still don't understand this, but if it is beneficial, I'm down.

in the older WJ's (grand cherokee) they had the 45RFE. there was a TSB on a drone/vibration in 4th gear at certain speeds. What chrysler did to correct that was flash the TCM to it thinking it was a 5 speed, instead of the original 4 speed.

It wont give you an extra gear on top of what you already have .75:1 4th gear ratio you will be controlling two different clutch packs. Still using 4th gear for overdirve in a way. Here is an example.
instead of regualr shifting like 1st gear, 2nd gear, 3rd gear, 4th gear.
it would be like 1st gear, 2nd gear, 3rd gear, 5th gear, 4th gear.

it is beneficial because owners on certain vehicles experienced a drone/vibration at certain speeds and it was cured by converting the 4 speed into a 5 speed.
