My truck ran out of gas yesterday, as I was pulling into the gas station. Luckily I was able to coast to the pump. Had a little trouble after starting up again it shut off as I was leaving, and then as I got home it shut off as I was pulling in driveway, and then once as I was pulling into the gym. Always shuts off as im stopping it seems never cruising. Do you guys think that there is air in the gas lines? Occasionally the idle would drop when im sitting still as well. Is it ok to drive it or should I wait til the shop opens?
For some unknown reason, these trucks DO NOT respond well after running out of gas. I believe I read a while back where a guy had the same problem and re-set his PCM and it fixed the issue.
I feel like maybe my IAC motor is failing because even before this event there were 2 occasions which my motor idle would drop at a stop light and rev back up or stay lower.
I just looked into it more there was a post on if your engine revs up and down at a stop and thats what mine does... Not sure if that contributes to it turning off when im coming to a stop though but it could I guess.
ill try that when it stops pouring outside. Hopefully that will do the trick because its getting worse. Just drove to work and it shut off at the stop light and hardly ever idles right now. If thats not it ill check the IAC.
