basically your right, but I found that the pipe from the stock box does have some restrictions due to the flexing ribs, but the more cool air into the motor the better, now I have a 4" x*" opening at the base of the bumper, with flex tube to the intake hole in the base cover on the engine, but will use this ONLY at the strip... also have a screen on it to block any big pieces of stuff, seems to work well, will know when I race it...
Your idea is fine, and cheap...and thats good. Try it, and good luck.... Im just cheap and wanna do my own thing.... dont believe in spending 3 or 4 hundred for one...
as they say, "the more cold air, the better"........

Later........GUIDO

I going to try it and see.Looks very simple and cheap it will not be direct to the motor but will be in the box with the drop in.

personally, I wount run that way unless its on the track...just too much stuff to get sucked up.... but your idea does help and I think you will notice a diff.... mine, as in the oics, has a flex from the bottom feeding it air also to the cone, wanna have as much air to the filter as possible.....

Good luck, and let me know how it does for you....GUIDO

Doc, I personally used a dryer vent, the aluminum type to bring it from the bottom to the top....got it at Home Depot for $9..and even tho its easy to dent (and to fix), it dosnt allow hot air to make the tube hot all the time... it acts like a heat sink, wicking heat from it easily....
Also u can use plastic ties to connect it to the frame and etc, to stop it from wiggling......
The regular box draws air from inside the engine comptmt., and so with the allowance of cooler air and more of it, this is good......

So, bottom line, go with the flex... I am changing mine again soon to flex all the way....
Let me know how you do....best of luck....GUIDO

Hey Guido7, did you ever have a chance to run it on the track since the intake mods? Just curious as to the numbers.

Well got my pipe run today. My son rode with me after I done it I got on it hard he throught it had a better sound than before.I know it takes a little while for the computer to make the changes in the airflow but he seemed very strong.I gave $54 for my K&N drop in and 15 for the dryer vent so $69 for all not to bad.Better than 185 to 265.

cool, you will see the diff, not much but it does show.... you will see the increase in the low power range, at least that is what I found..
A friend of mine that is a mechanic AND a hemi owner, drove mine, before and after the CAI in the pic was installed, and he sees a good diff in power...he is doing the same to his now...

I will be going to the track soon, run the 1/8th mile and see if the new one works that much better....

I am still waiting for the Superchip Mod for the 04 and 05 hemis...they are in production now, I heard, and should be out by the summer....
