Should I buy some type of heat shield to wrap around the intake tube that goes above the engine? I know it gets hot in there and I don't want the heat to eventually ruin the plastic intake or cause it to not preform as well as it could.

Yeah but IMO I think it still will pull hot air at idle. Now driving and forcing fresh air in the engine compartment is a different matter
