Question 6-speed tranny noise

2007 1500 4.7l 4x4 QC SLT with 6-speed manual (23800 miles)

So heres the deal...

Any time that I shift from 2nd into 3rd I get a slight grinding noise. Once in 3rd any presure up on the shifter and it makes the noise continously untill you let go of it... The only time that it does not make the noise is when I am driving like my grandmother and shift at very low RPMs.

Anybody else get this? Is this something that I should be worried about? I have had other trucks with sticks that made a little noise during shifting and was always told that it was nothing to worry about. Any suggestions on what it might be?

i'd say its your syncros thats the only thing in your tranny that will make a grinding noise while shifting, diffently take it in to a tranny shop before something brakes
should be covered at the dealer

Change the fluid atf+4, and check the level to see if it is low, prior to the change.
First thing FSM calls out for noise and hard shfts is low lev

disregard this thread.... I found the issue and fixed it today.... I would tell you what it was, but then I would feel even more stupid then i already do....... Just rest assured that it was a minor issue and acctaully had nothing to do with the tranny....

I guess everybody needs something to laugh at... so hear goes it...

I have an aftermarket shift **** that is all metal... apparently the lower cover of it had come just a TINY bit loose... but it was enough so that with just the right vibration (which happened to be occuring when i would shift out of 2nd and into 3rd) the metal on metal vibration sounded EXACTLY like gears grinding in the tranny.... so less then a quater of a turn later, the sound is gone.....

I wanted to beat my head into a wall when i realized what it was... FML.
