Keyless Entry remote
The one and only key that I have is grey. Its just a normal key. I just had another made at walmart that worked just fine. Im really confused on all of this. Everywhere I look online is says the 06 should have the key with built in keyless entry. But I think those keys have the chip in them. So how is my truck running.
Thanks

I bought a blank off ebay it lasted 3 months before it died. I paid 60 for the blank and the dealer hit me for 89 to program. When i took it in to find out why it wasnt working i got lucky and the gave me a new fob for free and programmed it for me. the factory keys with keyless entry cost a arm and a leg. As far as why your truck runs without the chipped key, my guess would be somone had an aftermarket starter on it and has the bypass module on it.

my car starter came with a bypass but it still need to put a gray sentry key put in before i drive away
the chip is in the key not the fob

06 and up uses the integrated remote and key. Thats what he is meaning i believe.. You can actually take the little circuit board out and it wont start.
A walmart key should not work, unless someone has taped a sentry key to the box, believe it or not guys on the Jeep boards did it all the time, or its got a bypass module installed.

Ok I have not tried to walmart key yet but I will. So you guys are saying that if I was to buy a key I would be buying the all in one fob and key but I wont actually need it programmed to start the truck just to open the doors? Im sorry if this is confusing to everybody but trust me Im confused to.

My 2006 1500 has both. It came with only one integrated fob/key combo. I wanted a spare key but did not want to drop $250 for a new fob/key combo and programming. The dealer said I had two options. The integrated key/fob or the plain sentry key. Both need to be programmed to your vehicle. So I went with the latter. Can't remember the price but think it was around $130 with programming. Still highway robbery for what amounts to a spare key. And you think they could throw that in after dripping $18K on a truck.
Keep this in the back of your mind anytime you go used vehicle shopping from now on. Always insist on 2 remotes before you close a deal. If you don't sadly most dealers won't add it after the deal is closed.

Well this morning I tested the walmart key and it worked just fine. But now thinking about it I think i had the key I have been using in the seat. So I dont know if that is close enough to see that or if I just dont need a chip in the key for it to work.
I actually did ask about the key but I didnt put it on the paper saying what I wanted done first the guy told me that another sales lady is dating the guy that traded the truck in so I was told that she could get it. But yeah supposedly she asked and he didnt have one.
Thanks
Aaron.

Ok so would it be possible if I could just buy a universal keyless entry system on ebay and just hook it up myself and now mess anything up. There is several on there for under $50 one is a bully dog too. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Again

ive been told that you need a bypass, but with your truck working without a chipped key you might get by without one. I think you have a bypass already on there or something, I put my regular keys in my pocket and used my chipless key to try and start it, and it would only turn over, no start
