Default Engine swap question

I have a 2002 Dodge ram new body style with 4.7 L engine in it. Its blowing white smoke. Figure heads are going and has a knock too so I want to do a engine swap instead. I found a engine but its from a 2006 Dodge ram. Its a 4.7 L also. For a extra 800 I can get trans and transfer. Its supposively from a salvaged stolen recovery with only 23000 miles

Will the engine from 2006 fit my 2002? It comes complete with harness and computer. Should I entertain idea of buying trans and transfer? Anything specific I should look for or check when going to look at the 2006 engine?

Thank you for your time

I believe the engines will interchange up to 2007. I know the 08 has different heads and such.

You'll probably need the computer from the 06... I think then the 4.7 was a high output(the different heads, in which case I would also get the wiring harness from it as well

diesel44 - Did you ever get the 2006 engine installed? Any problems if so? I also have a 2002 with a knock. Might just need a valve job, but by the time I do all the gaskets, etc I might rather put a used low-mileage engine in.

I've been looking at 2005 4.7's on ebay and am wondering if everything is going to match up. I can handle grabbing a computer for the 2005, but hopefully nothing else.

So I dont think you are going to get an answer to that Q. However, maybe you can go to his profile and click on the contact info link and email him if he allows it and if he gave a commonly used email address.

Ok, will do. I didn't think it had been too long, so I thought I would give it a whirl.
