You're wasting your time weed. Unless they're running a gauge to monitor kr, they'll just never get it.

I know it is one of those things where you just gotta see it to believe it. Unfortunately, we (humans) cannot see, detect and hear what those sensors are designed to hear.

I'll defer to your expertise. We're an engine rebuild shop, not tuners, and we typically work on BMW and Toyota vs. Dodge.

Just because you can run a tank or 87 (or even several) and not have any adverse side affects does not mean your knock sensors dont notice the lesser grade fuel.

Again as and said in port #22, sure it will work but if you truly understand the internals and designs of an engine and blends of fuel, you will know what you can and should use.

And yes, you are right that Dodge Ram PCMs do not auto adjust base spark or other tuning features. Those have to be written to the PCM via custom tuning.

this gives me kind of a sour feeling. in a few months im supposed t get my dads truck which is an 07 hemi. and it has 60000 miles and he has run the lowest gade fuel since the day hes gotten it which im pretty sure is 87. You guys think the engine will have quite a bit of suffering from this?

I know guys who've run nuthin' but 87 octane on a Hemi and have well over 100k miles on it with no apparent problems, but I will say that most times when someone has a major cylinder issue on this engine, the owner has admitted to using primarily 87 octane fuel.

Thats true what Hammer says. Its not the question can you use lower octanes and will it work, the OP asked did octane matter and that all depends on what you mean by "matter".
