Default Does Octane Matter?

What type of gas do you all use? I put nothing but 91 into my vehicle (04 4.7) but I'm curious if it even Matters. Also, is there a certain type of gas you use (shell, chevrong, etc.)?

I use nothing but 87 and I've been wondering if I should go up to 91... I'll watch this thread with interest.

Hmm... just read on another forum that 91 isn't recommended unless you have your vehicle specifically tuned for it... they also said that the stock chips can sense 87 and 89 octane, and adjust accordingly, but do nothing for 91

If you're stock, run 89 like the manufacturer recommends.

I didn't even know the manufacturer recommends 89 octane, guess I'm going to have to cut my coffee budget down to afford a few more pennies going into the gas tank.

Thanks for the heads up.

Many say it's very important to run 89, 87 can cause problems later down the road

Use what the book says. For the 4.7 it's probably 87. Only the Hemi needs higher octane. Contrary to popular belief, octane is not power. My two Hemis get either 89 or a mix of 87 and 93 to get close to that.

Ive been running 88 in my '07 Hemi. I refuse to do the low grade here (Utah) which I think is 83? And the next step up is 91... 88 seems to be running fine right now, should I run 91 through it every once and a while?
