Ethanol making a differance in Performance?
I just recently got my truck a few weeks ago,So I was not able to run non-ethanol fuel in it.So heres a couple question mabey someone can answer.
If you ran non-ethanol,then had to switch, did you notice a performance differance?
Have you tried an additive to remove it?Any differance? I use an additive for my Bass boat,I know they run higher RPM's but runs much better.I belive Sta-Bil also makes one now also.Expensive though.
I have a cabin on Lake Champlain in NY\VT,so a couple gas stations will only carry non-ethanol fuel cause of all the boaters(They just slapped a "Marina" Sign over the gas station which in VT allow them to carry it)
Would it be better to use that,or does the cost not justify the means?
89 oct. non- ethanol is 10-15 cents more per gallon then regular 89 oct.

You can go back and forth between blended and non-blended fuel. Anytime i find non-blending I but it. But it is hard to find. There is ONE station around me that sells non-blended fuels. The advantage is better MPG. Under Federal guidelines, any franchised fuel supply company must sell blended (10% +/-) fuel. However, non-franchised and personally owned stations can sell 100% fuel. Also, the government has been taking steps for some time now to bump up the blend from 10% to 15%.
I don't know about performance boost but you will see a mpg increase. I have seen a 1.5 to 2mpg increase using it on my tiny V6. The key is to fill up when you are almost on empty so you are not mixing it with the ethanol gas.
The local guy I buy it from sells it about 7 cents higher than blended so it is definately worth it to me. 15 cents I don't know. I would try it for a couple of weeks and see how you do.

Here is Parry Sound, Canada, it is the same mixed with ethenol as it is without. There is only one gas station that sells non-ethenol across the board. All other gas stations are 10% for 87, 5% for 89 and stright gasoline for 91.
IMO....Ethanol/E85/blends SUCK. Here is why.
Ethanol (or any alcohol) attracts and combines with water. Water is not good for your engine.
Ethanol gets worse gas mileage and will cost more than if you just ran regular gas in your vehicle in the long run.
E85/ethanol, made of corn, is also costing us more since the supply for feed for animals (cows etc) is not as great so the cost of feed has gone up, thus the cost of beef, milk, any dairy, has gone up.
Ethanol has less stored energy available for combustion as compared to gasoline (that is why you run lean, you need more of it to get the same power output). The octane rating is higher, so you can add more timing and you will not get detonation or knock. However, without being able to add more fuel as well, you will not get as much power out of it as you will with gas.
Again this is my opinion based on the facts that I have seen.

Ethanol has the potential to produce more power because of it's very high octane, meaning you can advance the timing but it's going to use a lot more because as mentioned, it contains fewer BTUs than gasoline.
Forced induction guys love the stuff for it's high octane so they don't have to spend $$$ on racing fuel, but you have to run HUGE injectors to get enough fuel into the cylinders to make power which again kills fuel economy.
