Default EGTs Whats normal?

So I put an EGT on my truck and it goes up to 1550* When I get on it at all it will peg the needle. What are normal temps for our trucks? I installed the sensor in the manifold on the passenger's side right where all 4 come together which is where the directions told me to put it. They do make a gauge that goes to 2400* but I am more worried about what it is supposed to be at. Cruising at 60mph the temps were right around 1400* Any input would be cool.

I know my buddy's powerstroke will tow a skid-steer up a hill and not break 1200* are Gasser temps that much different?

Everything I have found researching this is that 1500* is too high for any extended period. Mine hits 1550* by just putting it down 1/2 throttle! Seems hot. I pulled the plugs and this is what I found:

These plugs have 15,000 miles on them only!
I replaced all 16 plugs and loaded my original factory tune in thinking that the diablo 93 tune was making it run hot. I was proved wrong. Temps were the exact same with the stock tune. I am not sure what the deal is here.
All 16 plugs looked the same so its not like a fuel injector is clogged or something

Nothing looks wrong with those plugs, They are not bent, broken or damaged. The electrode is not worn down. As for EGT, not many guys worry about EGT on a gas engine. However, EGT on a CTD is very important. Maybe they can help.

I just didnt like the brown discoloration on the top part. I guess I assumed they were running hot. The reason for the EGT is that I am putting a procharger on it next weekend, so I wnated to monitor the temps. I figured that my pistons will melt at the same temp as a CTD, but I may be wrong here. I guess I will see what happens to the temps after the install. Thanks

Smart thinking on the EGT gauge to go with your procharger. Your pistons will melt looong before the pistons in a cummins

AFAIK and FWIW, gas engines run hotter EGTs than diesels.

Quite the opposite. Your gasser pistons will melt around 1600*F. I regularly hit 1500* with water/meth injection on high boost.

So as my truck sits right now its all stock, tune and all. Only mod is a CAI, and my EGTs are hitting 1550* (at least, the gauge pegs) Do you think there is something wrong with my truck or something wrong with the gauge? Glowshift.com is where I got the gauge, they did have the option of the gauge that goes to 2400* should I trade mine for that one to see where I am really at? This has me a little confused, it seems like there is no way that I should be hitting 1550 with stock everything. Am I wrong?

Any way to check the EGT for accuracy? I don't imagine you can crank up the kitchen stove's oven over about 500 degrees, but at least you can get some idea as to how accurate the thermometer/sensor setup is. It could be just wrong.
