4.7 16 tooth vs 32 tooth
I have a 2002 1500 with a 4.7L. It has a knock in the motor. I was trying to get it back on the road sooner and decided to pick up a use motor. It came out of a 2002 durango. I knew about the 32 tooth vs 16 tooth for that year but thought i was ok when I ck'd the cam tone wheel and counted 16. The harness came with the used motor. I guess if I would have done more research i would have seen the 4 connectors as a problem. Anyway motor is installed and of course won't start. My question is since I have the harness, can I change that and the computer and get it to work or is that more painful than pulling the motor again?
you could try but i think your at the point where the motor needs to be removed..changing the tone rings is a big job and involves removing the crank..if you do change the harness and put in a computer youll have to get everything reprogramed to your vin and i dont believe the durango harness interchanges with the pickup...
I will move this over the the 3rd gen section to get you some more answers. If you had the older 5.9L V8 that some 2002s had, you may have been more at home here in 2nd gen, but with that newer 4.7L V8, you'll find yourself getting more useful info from guys in 3rd gen that know that engine.
