So.... i am wanting to do a engine swap on my 2004 1500 it has the 3.7 and i just want a v8 but what is the cheapest/easiest way to do so i was thinking probably the 4.7. also what all is needed or is the 4.7 a direct replacement. thanks

I've got to strongly push you to consider a hemi rather than the 4.7. However if the 4.7 is what you want then I would push you to consider the new 4.7 but that wouldn't be cheap. Try to get the complete engine with all electronics because the electrical side is going to have to be redone (PCM, etc.) so try to have all that come with the new engine.

for the extra cash i would get the hemi, well worth it. More power and about the same MPG as the 4.7

does the 3.7 use the same tranny? that would be something to look into

it would be cheaper and a lot less hassle to sell your truck and just get one with a v8

I have a 4.7 and thought that was good when I bought it. I wish I got a 5.7 hemi. But when I get that I would wish I had a Cummins. haha but I love my 4.7 its great!

But the OP has a point, swapping to a 4.7 is a big enough feat but going from the 3.7 to a 5.7 would require more electrical connectors and maybe the PCM as well. The trans from the 3.7 is questions able also. Im assuming the OP has a automatic?

Atwiss - just what was going through your mind when you decided to get a V6 is a huge truck anyway....
