TIPM issue resolve, trailer brake light/signal out
I have posted in another thread about my problems with a LH trailer brake light output being faulty on my 2006 RAM 2500 2WD Diesel. I have followed step by step suggestions given to me, unfortunately with no success. The thread eventually went dead (no more responses) after my last post in which I asked more questions about the TIPM, which seems to be the problem.
One of my questions was, where exactly is that TIPM mounted?
In another question I asked in reference to a suggestion about mentioned DTCs, whereas I seem not to have any, at least not that I know of. Wouldn't I be seeing a check engine light or some kind of light in the dash showing me that there is something wrong in the system, or can this only be discovered when checked with a proper reader. Can a standard ODBII reader be used for the read-out of such issue?
From here on, how much is possible with standard tools? I have tested each and everyone of the fuses in the box under the hood individually for continuity with a tester, I certainly can use such tester to determine output voltage on certain terminals of the TIPM and shall do so.
How much does a TIPM flash (as per TSB post suggested earlier) cost at the dealer, and where does the rip-off money-wise starts?
How much do these TIPMs run if it needs to be replaced, and where does the rip-off start on those units. Aren't there specialists yet that are specialized in rebuilding and updating these and offering them in exchange?

If there is a stored code, a std OBD-II code reader should show it. It's worth a shot before hitting the dealer. I was thinking the TIPM is the power distribution box under the hood, but my brain isn't really working right now for some reason.
TIPM Totally Integrated Power Module. It's located in front of your battery and is what your fuses plug into. The tipm controls all the relay circuits and distribution points. It reads each circuit and if it detects a fault such as a short or an overload, it will retry only so many times and then turn that circuit off just like a popped fuse would. The only way to get that resolved is to go to the dealer and have them restore your settings.
I just came home from the dealer because I am having similar issue's. A reconfig didn't do any good. Says I still have DTC's WHICH I can't see on the dash because the engine/abs/airbag/seatbelt lights are all out on the dash. When I connected my regular scanner, it only picked up 4 codes, then my Cortex picked up 8 codes. The dealer picked up all 8 and showed that they were ALL currently Active so there's an issue inside the TIPM.
Now, I've read a number of 2006 Ram owners that have had trailer lighting issue's and lose their directionals just like myself. This apparently is because the original program cannot handle the extra load of the trailer wiring. There is a TSB I believe regarding that and they reconfigure the tipm to handle higher amperage(75A??) Most guys have had to get new tipm's and get the updated software.
The TIPM's for the 2006's are NOT cheap. They are the most expensive out of the 06'07'08 model years. Yours is ~$600-680 depending on dealer mark-up plus the installation which includes programming to match your vin options. My dealer is getting $120 for that. You CANNOT drive with a new installed tipm. As much as I would love to install it myself, there's no way to drive the truck after as it needs to be programed.
I would go down to Autozone or AdvanceAuto and have them pull up the codes..if any? Does the engine light or the ABS illuminate when your in acc? if not, then it's prob your tipm.
Good Luck
