Default LED Strip, or bulbs...

So I just put in HID headlights, and using my tuner I turned off the driving lights. Definitely do not want those lights off and on all the time(especially with the dodge turn signals) Now here in Alberta driving without them are illegal. I'm thinking of a way to "symbolize" the driving lights using high power LEDs.

I have thought about using a bulb, or led strips. Just wondering if any of you guys have done something like this, or for your opinions. All I am looking for is something that I can wire right into the fuse box, maybe (probably) on a dash switch. Something that during the gloomy days, or somewhat dark times, I don't have to turn on all my lights just so that people can see me on the road, does not have to be blinding, just seeable....

I have thought about two bulbs on either side of the grill, or a strip that runs the full length across the top, of course with the break in there. I also realize that color can be a thing for LEDs too. Thought about putting amber ones in there to kinda match the park lights.

What I would really like to see happen, is that when the headlights come on these LEDs will turn off, but thats just a simple relay setup to normally closed...

Just want some opinions on what you guys think would look good. I need something, otherwise I could face a potential ticket up to 200 bucks, not to mention its been proven to save lives so...

if you have a little skill in electrical work you could fab up a small halogen bulb in your stock housing on one side of your HID bulb....or LED, it doesnt matter really...

You also could buy a set of hellas and put them on the front, they are listed as driving lights so maybe it would be counted as your DRLs...the LED strip idea sounds cool and has been done in the plastic piece across the bumper and I have been thinking about a Ford Raptor style light setup, but i dont know if that would be looked at as DRLs

But remember that HIDs last alot longer than halogens, so running them all the time wouldnt be that bad!

Daniel Stern DRL module for your turn signals to function as DRL's might be an option.

I have my DRL's disabled on my '04, I've had no issues with any compliance officers over it, but I'd need to put them back into service to pass a safety inspection if I wanted to sell the tuck, the Daniel Stern module would negate that requirement. AS long as it doesn't throw trouble codes, Daniel says it won't.

I actually ave two amber LED strips that are 18" long and brand new. I was going to use them for something else but never used them as I changed my mind and went another direction. LMK if you are interested in them. I will give them away at a very cheap price.

thanks for the interest guys...I kinda want to stick LED, just cause they are bright for the amount of power they use. I thought all they they really needed was just something to let other drivers know you are there, that they did not have to be an actual lamp. Hellas I would think would be a little overdoing it for driving lights...no?

I have been running them off for a little while now, but me being a young guy I have been pulled over for doing 5kms over the limit with no chances of fighting. So I kinda really don't want to take the chance with all the sheriffs out here. Its like a $200 fine without them, which I know the sheriffs will probably heckle me for!

DRL module is very interesting, never knew that that existed. However I think im looking for something a little more original! Something that not many people have done or something that people would like to see!

Keep me posted on those LED strips weedahoe, I have thought about them, but I just have not found anyone around here yet with good prices. They are waterproof correct?
Ive thought about where to mount them, maybe make some kinda neat design in the grill? I was thinking that I should be able to drill small holes in the chrome plastic for the LEDs to sit in nicely and stick out so little that you would barely know they are there?

Again it goes back to what is legal here in Alberta, and what defines it as a DRL. I will look it up later when I get off work, just want some ideas thrown out there! THANKS!

oh and I do have lots of electrical experience here guys, so wiring is not an issue for me...(going to be a 3rd year electrician)

I've been thinking of getting two strips of super bright LEDs and mounting them in one of two places...one was under my lights in the gap between the bumper and the headlight, the other was actually in the horizontal bar of the grille and drill into it where each light was to make it go almost all the way across
