4.56s are the way to go, with 33s I run 2400 rpm @ 75mph, still get 18 mpg. Picked up about 1 mpg in town with the new gears, and much better acceleration over 3.92s. Plus, the tall gears keep you in the power band, so there is no lag when you're crusing at 45-60 and need to put your foot down to pass. Hands down the best mod ever (with the possible exception of the Auburn LSD)

Stock Mustang motor is pretty sturdy, but that sounds like it's pushing it beyond it's capability.

Which engine did the Stang have? 4.6, 5.4, or that new 5.0? According to Road and Track, the 2010 Mustang GT with the 4.6L 315 HP engine turns the 1/4 mile in 13.8, and that's stock.

Side note - I must admit that that new 5.0L would look nice in my garage next to the Hemi!

The fact that you stayed with him is impressive. I'm sure that your truck is at least 1500 pounds heavier than the Mustang.

I'm not calling you a liar but if the mustang was boosted and running nitrous even though he does have a stock block (which is capable of holding 400-420 to the wheel with no problem)you would not have a chance unless the guy in the stang simply could not drive.Just the weight difference between the mustang and the dodge ram is over a 1000lbs.
I have a mustang putting down over 500rwhp and only running 9lbs of boost and I raced a srt 10 truck and literally killed him.

Save weight. If they had used steel with a single piece driveshaft that long, it would have been pretty heavy and I/m sure quite fun to balance. The SRT-10's use a 2 piece steel with a mounted bearing. I belive the 2500's use something similar. I've actually thought about going to this setup.

ok, well if i wasnt alone i wouldve had a video for you to see and a video for you to hear his mods that he told me.....i didnt look in his car but he told me all that, i know it had a bottle and a procharger i heard it and saw the bottle in the back seat...

i am shooting a 150 shot on my truck with alot of other mods....trust me if we had kept going any longer he wouldve eventually beat me, it was super close, but we ran to about a good little bit. and he said his car was basically stock just bolted that stuff on, it still had stock exhaust on it man i mean come-on....

i wouldnt waste my time to type all that stuff if it was bs, i do alot of street races around my town and hate people who bull s@*# and lie. Trust me im right there with ya. Just wait till my trubo kit is on......

Just an FYI the drive shaft in mine is not aluminum, its rusty as hell and its a 4x2, probably a quad cab thing.

Well, if the Mustang's stock exhaust is like the one I had on my old 5.0, it has headers and dual exhaust right from the factory. A pretty good setup from the start.

I think you did really well - you stayed with a 13.8 second car that was also shooting nitrous, which should make him even quicker. And you're doing it in a truck that weighs over 5000 pounds.

I was originally looking at going with 4.10 gears myself, which would be an upgrade from the 3.55's I have now. But I'm starting to think more seriously about 4.56 gears instead. Not just for acceleration, but for the ability to deal with the hilly country around here with less strain.
