Default changed lbj, now cruise wont work?

hey all, i posted a couple of days ago for advise on doing my lbj. well they are done, not too bad of a job. problem now is my cruise control wont work. i can turn it on at a stop, but as soon as the truck starts moving it goes off. i searched a few threads on here and it seems it could be from the abs sensor. could it be i got some crud in there? no dash lights on and no codes. how could i clean the sensors off? contact cleaner? i didnt break anything sensor related. i also reset the pcm, also put a different tune with my 3815., same issue. hopfully just a dirty abs sensor. any advise? thanks, carl

lower ball joints?

It sounds like something either got knocked loose, or perhaps the sensor got dirty somehow. I always use brake clean to spray off my ABS sensors when I do brake jobs and such. Hope this helps

Do you have ABS on the front of your truck? I don't think you do. You do have a wheel speed sensor up there though.
Did you unplug a wheel sensor and maybe forget to plug it back in?
i wouldn't reccomend spraying brake cleaner on sensors as that is some pretty nasty stuff, but they do make electronic cleaner and other safer cleaners such as TB cleaner. It's just that brake cleaner dries up and brittles ANYTHING that is classified as a seal such as rubber, plastic..etc.. Not saying it wouldn't work, but the long term side effects might not be worth it.

Thanks dirtydog, yes it is a wheel speed sensor, my bad.

Also a good point on the brake cleaner and making seals and such brittle, on my Ford, there was no seals or o-rings of any kind so I used brake cleaner to clean off the dust on the ABS sensor.

I have not had to do a brake job yet on my Dodge, so I don't know specifically if there is or is not a seal of some kind on the Dodge.

thanks for the input. yes there is a sensor up there, not sure if it is abs though. held in with small allen head screwon the hub, looks like it. just replaced the lower ball joints. put everything back as it should, drove 35 miles from parents house where i did the work, no problems except for the cruise control. was gonna use electrical connection cleaner. just wanted some ideas what to use to clean with. thanks again, carl

A throttle body cleaner or MAF cleaner would probably work just fine. As an afterthought, brake clean is probably no the best to use on electrical sensors like dirtydog stated above. I never had a problem, but I would hate to give out bad advise.

You may have damaged or cracked it when removing/installing it. The cruise control relies heavily on the speed sensor for it's magnetic coil pick-up. It bases it's control on the frequency output generated by the sensor. If the sensor is dirty or inoperable, then the cruise control is rendered useless. I would pull it back off and make sure there are no iron particles stuck to the surface and make sure it is seated properly. I do know that the hubs internally could also be a problem with corrosion, so you may not even have a bad sensor but a bad/dirty hub???
