Default Stupid question but...

If I swap out to a short belt for the winter and bypass the AC pully/compressor, I can still run the vent and the heater correct? To my knowledge there isn't anything on there that would affect the vent and heater if I bypassed that pully but I just want to be sure before I do it once it gets cooler out.

I think it would work, but doesn't it still get hot in the winter in AZ sometimes?

From Late October to about April it might get to about 80* for a high and if it gets hotter I'll just throw a new belt back on.

There is a lubricant in the AC gas.
If the AC isn't cycled every once in a while even in the winter.........I have read and heard, that the AC seals in the system can dry out and that can cause a leak.
I've always once a week without fail cycled my AC, on even in winter just to be sure about this.
Just my 2c.
Al.

Yep,
AC comes on when the defroster is turned on. I don't think there is a performance advantage by removing the long belt as the AC compressor is disengaged at WOT.

Yes the compressor cycles when the de-frost is on but....without a belt attached.....how's it going to do that?

Hello Al, I see it is only you and I on the forum, just like last year. I'm 12 time zones ahead of the east coast and I have no idea what time it is in England.
With the belt off, my guess is the clutch will try to engage. But the 3G also has compressor High/Low pressure sensors that feed the PCM god knows what..

Yes.....it's about 08:30 on Wednesday morning here in the UK.
Your right about the cycling part. I'm just not sure that without a pump/compressor how will the gas/lube be physically moved around the system?
Al.

It's 3:35 PM Wednesday here. Everytime in the past when I have taken the belt off the compressor it has never worked again. So I would say it doesn't do the compressor any good to be disconnected. If I didn't want the AC, I think I would remove the whole unit.
