5 speed auto
Hey there everybody, I'm new to this forum. Actually I don't even own a Ram yet, but am trying to do a little research before buying one. Can anyone tell me what year the 1500s came out with a 5 speed tranny? Has anyone towed anything with one that does? Right now I drive a 2004 GMC Yukon and towing a travel trailer that weighs 4100lbs dry. The Yukon has only a 4 speed tranny and it really sucks when I get into the hills as there seems to be too big a gap between gears. I'm hoping that with more power from the Hemi and a 5 speed tranny that the Ram 1500 would tow better. Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
PS: I know that a Diesel truck would be far better for towing, but I need to use the truck as a daily driver as well and only tow about 6-7 times a year.

all the (03-10) hemi's come with 5 speeds so your set there, make sure you get one that has a tow/haul button, this will put the tranny in optimal tow/haul and you won't get that gear searching. even tho it locks out 5th gear (reducing it to a 4 speed) it adjusts the shift points and shifts harder to reduce wear and tear on the tranny
i have a 05 hemi and tow 4500lbs (car and trailer), its so smooth that i look back to make sure its still there lol the 1500 with a hemi will tow 5000lbs very easily
While towing i sit at about 2000 rpm in 4th doing 80-90 KM/h (55-60MPH) and get 10-12 mpg
