Have an 02 1500, with the 4.7. Last nite, went to start it up just kept cranking wouldnt fire. Checked fuel pump fuse,ect still would fire. Tapped on gas tank with the flashlight and it fired right up. No prob this morning, try to start after work, same issue and same fix. Not sure if its fuel pump or a loose wire somewhere? Would the fuel pump act up or just quit completely?

 

If tapping the gas tank is "fixing" the issue likely you're looking at a problematic fuel pump.

 

Or just to think of everything, it could be the electrical harness at the top of the tank for the pump. If you are sure it is isolated to the pump then drop the pump and check the harness and contacts and try hot wiring to try to duplicate the issue

 

Turned out to be the pump was going. Issue lasted till Saturday night then the truck wouldnt start at all. Dropped the tank and put a new pump in on Sunday.
