Default 2006 1500 4x4 half shaft question

I have the common vibe at 65mph and read some posts about the half shafts or cv joints being the problem sometimes and went out to check mine. If I push up and down on them where they exit the housing, I get a fair amount of play. In my experience with other cv joints, that is bad. I would assume there should be no play coming out of the housing, just the normal little amount of play in the cv joint. Is that correct?
thanks
nate

If you push up and down on the inboard end of the shaft and get play, then the most likely cause is play from the stub shaft in the housing. I think the long side actually rides on a bearing that can be replaced, but the other (short) side is just a "floater" i believe. The only amount of allowable play should be on the splines, maybe 1/8" or so... even though the clips on there are meant to prevent that.

Just went through the same ordeal because of the vibration over 65. A shop will replace them both for around $299 and the parts were $160 of that. The vibration is GONE! Well worth the $139 to let them do it in my opinion...........

I live over in Bend. I had Wade Bryant's over here do mine a couple weeks ago. I chased that vibration for 2 months buying new tires, a new wheel, 3 balance jobs, u-joints, etc. Finally reached up under it one day and found my passenger inner gone and that fixed it completely. Good luck.

You need new ones. That will fix your problem! Not that much money to get it done......
