ORIGINAL: WingViper

What's the HP rating on the 545RFE tranny? I contacted Dodge and they said they can't tell me, which is a bunch of BS if you ask me.
I think someone said it was around 400hp without mods. What tranny are they putting behind the 6.1L Hemi, cause that puts out 425? I know they have the M/B tranny in the 300/Charger/Magnum w/ Hemi.

Typically, drive-train components are rated by torque, not hp. In fact, I've never seen hp ratings that I can recall.

For the record, one can run crazy amounts of torque, IF one doesn't drive like a drag-racer. I own and have driven enough very powerful vehicles (1100 hp max) to know. Abuse them and they break, don't abuse them and they usually won't--pure and simple. This is the difference between needing a $400 single-plate clutch system or a $1600 three-plate system, for example (the latter I bought last summer for one of our race cars). Race tends to equal abuse. Street doesn't have to. I've successfully run nearly 500#ft through a stock T-5 5-speed on the street for almost 9 years. The tranny is rated at something less than 300#ft, as I recall now.

All the best.

What would be your guess Avanti, something around 500 ft/lbs? I agree with your statement on street vs. strip but like you said, it all depends on the driver and how its driven. But why have 400+ hp if you can't use it? Although I contradict myself as I have 345hp and rarely ever use it all. So that being said, let's see how KeniHemi's tranny holds up in the real world and let that be a testament to the tranny.
