Default Paint Problems

This summer I suddenly began to notice small white "spots" on the hood on the passenger side. June to be exact. What started out as few small pencil eraser size spots has now continued to grow (see photo). They are now beginning on the drivers side and right above the middle of the windshield on the roof. I first thought that someone had spilled cola or some other acid on the hood. I'm worried that I'll have to repaint the entire truck if this continues to pop up.

Is this common with Dodge?

Yup clear coat is starting to flake. How often do you wax it? Do you take good care of it? I mean the paint. My best guess is a new paint job is def in the future or a newer truck.

I've waxed it religiously over the past 9 years. Plus I use Minquiers on everything.. Can't afford a new one. So it looks like a new $3500 paint job. I was going to make a joke about a 5th of Jack being poured into the paint vat at the Dodge factory...

You have the price about right. I'm very particilar about paint and have had extra clear coats applied plus a lot of rubbing and polishing. It ain't cheap and it's hard to find anyone to really get it right. I get a lot of exercise parking it in the far corner of parking lots far away from everyone. lol

Got the same problem on mine on the roof, right around the high mount brake light. Also, something i've noticed with a bunch of 2002 rams is the paint peeling on the front fenders. The clear coat, paint and primer seem to just crack off in some spots. Obviously the surfaces werent clean when painted. To my knowledge this never became a recall or even a rapid response transmittal by chrysler...

Mine has been clear coated over the original factory paint. Actually several coats. Pictures don't really show the depth. But I think the extra work makes them stand out.
