Steering Play While Offroading
Hey guys,
My apologies if a thread like this has already been posted. I used the "Search Forums" tool to find threads that looked similar, but none seemed to be the same. ANYWAY!
I was driving some hard dirt trails the other day and I began to feel light thumps inside of my steering wheel. It felt as though my wheels were turning back and fourth as the car navigated through the road...but my steering wheel was not moving at all. So almost a certain amount of "dead space" in my steering wheel because something maybe loose. However I haven't been able to replicate the problem on asphalt. On the freeway my steering is plenty tight and responsive...it just seemed like my steering system wasn't all one unit while I was offroading. Any ideas as to if this is a problem or normal?
If it helps to know, my truck has an independent front suspension, and I broke my front left CV joint a month or so ago and replaced the axle. The worker at Goodyear told me the other one looked like it was in bad shape as well. So I bought an extra axle to use as a replacement in the event that the one I'm using now breaks.
