RE: rear-end noise, axle gone bad
I have the 9.25 LD(not LSD) rear axle with 3.92 gears...
I was going to take the cover off this weekend after I run around finding 5 quarts of the 75-90 synth gear oil to replace the old after it all drains out. I got one quart so far... $8.50 a quart for the mobile 1 is alot so I am looking for something else. I get a discount through the Dodge house so I may just use the chrysler stuff if it turns out to be the cheapest.
I will make sure that I use a filter of some type to catch anything that might be in the rear end and will let yall know what I find.

RE: rear-end noise, axle gone bad
I think I may have lucked out on the truck, I forgot I have a good friend that works at a Chrysler dealer and he said that he will get it covered under warranty with no cost to me(and it shouldnt be anyway) without any of the normal hassles that most dealers provide free of charge(ha-ha). I ran into him yesterday when I was dropping off a Viper that needs the a/c charged. He said that this rear axle problem is a well know issue and that since it is covered under the 7-70 warranty Chrysler/Dodge fixes most of them right away so that it doesnt get out to the public as a big deal. He also said that the service advisors like to quote the 15,000 mile rear-end service alot but that is like throwing out a line so they can see if they can manage to reel in any potentials that might be stupid enough to pay for it out of their own pockets because they might feel guilty about not doing it. My friend has been a mechanic for over 20 years and he said there isnt a rear-end out there made by an american pick-up manu that should have to be serviced at all before 60,000 and then some, under any circumstance. This being the case I would also agree that the 15,000 mile "service" is more or less for Chrysler's sake to inspect them for problems that they are totally aware of all the while collecting upwards of $80+ to do so.
