another check engine light

RE: another check engine light
You said you "only see two rubber hoses, and they are both connected to the fill hole". By fill hole, I assume you mean the gas tank fill neck?
If so, you're back too far.
Mounted on the frame and forward of the gas tank, the EVAP assembly is attached to the frame. There are several short hoses attached to this. With the engine running, check around these hoses. If there is a leak, you should also hear the hissing sound that a vacuum leak makes. My truck was throwing both P0455 and P0442 codes. Fixed the hose, no more codes.

I've had the problem with the check engine light also. Took it in for service, found an evaporation leak, said it had a broken hose on the emmissions system, replaced for $130.16. Light comes back on a day later, took it back, said he'd let me know what he found, service manager went home didn't call and let me know they couldn't find anything and that it was left hooked up to a smoke machine. Thankfully another manager was there and let me know what had happened, he personally unhooked everything from the truck so I'd have avehicle to drive home that night. Brought it back again, they said the code would be there and then it would go away, they'd need it more than a half day (11:00a.m. til 6:30p.m.) to find the problem. Check engine light was off when I picked it up. It came back on 5 days later. Brought it back today at 10:00a.m. they found the problem by 1:00p.m. There is a crack in the vapor harness and it will cost around $210. They will order the part and I will need to bring the truck back again for them to install the part. Sorry for the long post. What's with these trucks and the evap. leaks? Just normal wear?

RE: another check engine light
When I was a tech specialist for an OEM (not Dodge), one of the most common complaints about kicking codes after refueling was people "topping off" their tanks. What happens is, raw fuel backs up into the evap system and interferes with drawing a vacuum on the system for self test (and also goes into the engine when the evap solenoid opens). Also the garden variety gas cap was loose and created a vacuum leak. 2 all time favorites.....

Im experiencing the same issue. I got a code that reads "Gas Cap" on my odometer and now I got the engine "malfuction light". So I went to Autozone and purchased a new gas cap and nothing happen, still getting that error. I started reading the manual and notice it said that the fuel tank filler has a restricting door inside, about 2 inches in, either its stuck or broken, thus causing the codes. Im thinking this might be the issue with mine!

Engine codes
I get an error code P0420 Catalyst System Low Efficiency. Truck seems to be running fine however the Check Enging Light stays on. The person at the Auto Parts store says it sounds like you have a bad Catalitic converter and the cost on that is $300. Well I don't look at spending $300 for a catalitic converter if I can get by without one. Has anybody got an idea as to what else it might take to correct this code.

On my 04 ram hemi, the way I check my code through the odometer is as follows;
1. Press and hold the trip odometer button.
2. Turn the key on(only far enough to turn the radio on)while still holding the trip odometer button in.
It's that easy. you'll notice what looks like the odometer cycle through 0-120mph and back. what you are looking for after is the type of code letter c code= chassis, or p code= power train, etc... After you receive the code letter it tell you the four digits(#'s) to complete the code
example:
"p code"-pause-"18 95" would read "P1895 (TCM to ECM) Torque Reduction Circuit".
or,
"c code"-pause-"00 00' would read "C0000 Vehicle Speed Information Circuit Malfunction".
I hope this rare info gets to some of you folks, that have the newer option(being able to read codes thru the odometer).
