Sounds like the trans is in limp mode. When was the last time it did have all the gears and what happened since then? Any check engine lights on?

you will need to do a pcm reset to get it out of limp mode. if it goes right back into limp mode after the reset you have some sort of mechanical/electrical malfunction.

you mentioned a filter change, did you make sure it was seated properly? and did you install the new o-ring seal all the way?

Thanks for the reply

Yes theres a check engikne light on and till today I didnt know what error was popping up.. I have an 733 error improper gear ratio in 3rd gear.. the last error code i had was 1st gear gear ratio.. now that code went away after the filter and fluid change..the first filter was improperly mounted and by me doing a little 4 wheeling it came loose causing all this.. now how can i reset it so it will come out of this limp mode.. thank you

you wouldnt have any gears if your filter o ring wasnt seat properly.

disconnect your battery for a while (forgot exactly how long cause i have access to scan tools that do it) to reset it

Default Still having trans. issues

Ive tried disconnecting the battery for a few hows and it didnt seem to help.. 1st and second gears shift normally and when it comes time for 3rd gear the engine revs to just over 2 grand and the shifts ionto what I believe to be nutrall.. This in drive but as soon as I shift it into 2nd it will go back into gear and unfortunatly it will shift back into nutral when i shift it back to drive.. The only error code thats in the puter is 733 which is improper gear ratio in 3rd gear WTH lol..now I have access to a scan tool but I dont know enough about resetting anything beyond the error codes which we can take out but as farf as going any further we just dont know please can someone help us proceed beyond this I nmiss my truck!!!!!!!

The best way to reset the PCM is to disconnect the Positive battery cable, and ground it to the Negative battery post for about 30 seconds, this will reset all your adaptives, the things the PCM has learned since the last reset.

This works by draining off the stored energy from the capacitor that the PCM uses to keep learned parameters in it's memory, by unloading the capacitor it will default to the stock settings, and reset everything in the process. This method works on all Chrysler products, from Rams to Vipers.
